The Commercial Bank of Ceylon has strengthened its reputation as a leading force in Sri Lanka’s digital banking sector, securing three prestigious honours at the Global Finance World’s Best Digital Bank & AI in Finance Awards 2026.
The Bank received awards for Best Consumer Digital Bank, Best Mobile Banking App and Most Innovative Digital Bank at the ceremony held at Raffles Hotel in Singapore. The accolades recognise excellence in digital banking among financial institutions worldwide, placing Commercial Bank among internationally recognised institutions advancing technology-driven financial services.
Representing the Bank at the event were Mr Randil Boteju, Chief Digital Officer; Mr Ramendra Nonis, Manager of the Digital Banking Unit (DBU); and Mrs Nadika Nagahawatte, Senior Engineering Manager, IT Research and Development.
These international recognitions reflect Commercial Bank’s continued commitment to digital transformation, customer-focused technology and research-led innovation. The Bank’s Digital Banking Unit and IT Research and Development teams have played a central role in developing digital solutions that enhance banking functionality, accessibility and the overall customer experience.
The achievements also highlight Sri Lanka’s growing presence in the global digital banking landscape. Singapore-based DBS Bank was named the World’s Best Digital Bank at the same ceremony, underscoring the international standing of the institutions recognised by the awards programme.
According to Global Finance, award recipients were selected based on several criteria, including their strategies for attracting and serving digital customers, customer adoption and growth, the range of digital products and services offered, measurable benefits delivered through digital initiatives, and the design and functionality of their websites and mobile platforms. Winners in individual categories were evaluated on the relative strength and success of their digital products and services.
Commenting on the broader evolution of digital banking, Joseph Giarraputo, founder and editorial director of Global Finance, noted that financial institutions are increasingly adopting artificial intelligence, automation and advanced data analytics to meet rising customer expectations for speed, personalisation and seamless digital experiences while maintaining strong security, resilience and regulatory compliance.
Commercial Bank’s success across three award categories highlights its continued progress in developing an integrated digital banking ecosystem that responds to customers’ everyday financial requirements. As technology continues to reshape the financial services industry, the recognition reinforces the Bank’s focus on innovation, service efficiency and secure digital experiences that meet evolving customer expectations.
