Sri Lanka Convention Bureau Promotes Island’s MICE Potential Through India Roadshow Series
The Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB), operating under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, successfully conducted three MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) Roadshows and evening networking sessions in Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Chennai during the final week of May 2026.

The initiative was part of SLCB’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Sri Lanka’s position as a preferred MICE tourism destination in India, one of the country’s most significant tourism source markets.

The first roadshow was held on 25 May 2026 at Crowne Plaza Ahmedabad City Centre in Ahmedabad, followed by the Kolkata session on 27 May 2026 at ITC Sonar. The final roadshow took place on 29 May 2026 at Pullman Chennai Anna Salai in Chennai.

The events brought together key industry stakeholders including MICE specialists, wedding planners, professional conference organisers, and corporate MICE buyers, providing a platform to showcase Sri Lanka’s capabilities as a destination for business events, conferences, incentives, and corporate travel.

India continues to remain a key growth market for Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, contributing significantly to both leisure and MICE travel. According to data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, 531,511 Indian tourists visited Sri Lanka in 2025, accounting for 22% of total tourist arrivals. The year also marked a record achievement, with Sri Lanka welcoming its highest-ever number of Indian visitors, while tourism earnings exceeded USD 3.2 billion.

MICE and business tourism contributes approximately 10% of Sri Lanka’s total tourist arrivals and remains an important segment within the country’s tourism industry.

From January to the end of May 2026, Sri Lanka welcomed 1,010,807 tourists, including 245,981 visitors from India, highlighting the continued growth in travel demand and strong connectivity between the two neighbouring countries.

Travel between Sri Lanka and India remains highly accessible, with SriLankan Airlines operating 90 weekly flights connecting Sri Lanka with nine Indian cities. In addition, IndiGo and Air India provide daily services to Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Chennai, supporting convenient travel for both business and leisure travellers.

The roadshows highlighted Sri Lanka’s diverse MICE offerings and tourism experiences, reinforcing the country’s readiness to welcome international business travellers, corporate groups, and leisure visitors. The events also created valuable engagement opportunities with Indian travel industry professionals, media representatives, influencers, corporate decision-makers, and trade associations.
