Amăna Bank PLC, in collaboration with the Philatelic Bureau of the Department of Posts of Sri Lanka, has launched a Special Commemorative Cover and Stamp to mark the Bank’s 15th anniversary.

The ceremonial launch was held on August 12, celebrating Amăna Bank’s contribution to Sri Lanka’s financial services sector and its unique position as the country’s first and only licensed commercial bank operating entirely on a non-interest-based banking model.

The commemorative cover and stamp honour Amăna Bank’s journey since it commenced operations in 2011, marking 15 years of supporting growth, enriching lives and creating value through a development-focused and people-centred approach to banking.

Since its establishment, Amăna Bank has steadily expanded its nationwide presence, serving a growing customer base through a network of more than 80 branches and self-banking centres. The Bank continues to focus primarily on Retail and SME banking, alongside development-oriented financial services and a selective approach to the Corporate sector.

The commemorative event was attended by Deputy Postmaster General of the Sri Lanka Department of Posts Premachandra Herath; Director of the Philatelic Bureau Lanka De Silva; Founder Chairman of Amăna Bank Osman Kassim; Chairman Asgi Akbarally; Managing Director/CEO Mohamed Azmeer; Founder Directors Tyeab Akbarally, Ruzly Hussain, Jazri Magdon Ismail and Dr. A.A.M. Haroon; Founder Managing Director/CEO Faizal Salieh; members of the current Board of Directors; the Sharia Supervisory Council; OrphanCare Trustees; and representatives from the Bank’s Management Committee, Senior Management and branch network.

Prior to the stamp launch, Amăna Bank also marked its 15th anniversary by ceremonially hoisting the Sri Lanka National Flag at its Corporate Office premises.

Commenting on the milestone, Amăna Bank Chairman Asgi Akbarally said, “As we celebrate the 15th anniversary of Amăna Bank, this commemorative First Day Cover and stamp stand as a lasting tribute to a remarkable journey built on vision, resilience, and trust. It symbolizes not only the milestones we have achieved, but also the enduring confidence placed in us by our customers, shareholders, regulators, colleagues, and the communities we are privileged to serve.”

The commemorative issue serves as a lasting symbol of Amăna Bank’s 15-year journey and its continued commitment to serving Sri Lankan communities through an alternative, development-focused approach to banking.
Abans Brings LG’s Affectionate Intelligence Closer to Sri Lankan Consumers with ‘Living Just Right with LG AI’ at CCC
Abans, in partnership with LG Electronics, brought ‘Living Just Right with LG AI’ to Colombo City Centre (CCC), giving Sri Lankan consumers an opportunity to experience how intelligent technology can make everyday life simpler, more comfortable and more personalised.

Held from 12 to 16 August at the Colombo City Centre Atrium, the activation introduced visitors to LG’s concept of Affectionate Intelligence, a human-centred approach to technology designed to understand people, adapt to their needs and integrate naturally into everyday routines.

Rather than adding complexity to daily life, LG AI is designed to work seamlessly in the background, helping make everyday tasks more convenient and enjoyable.

While traditional artificial intelligence is often associated with processing information, automating tasks and responding to commands, LG’s Affectionate Intelligence takes a more human-focused approach. It considers the context of everyday life and adapts to individual needs, with the aim of creating greater comfort and convenience without complicating daily routines.

At the centre of the activation was an interactive LG AI Home, designed around familiar living spaces. The experience demonstrated how AI-powered technology can become part of everyday life through practical home environments and real-world use cases. Visitors were able to explore how LG products can respond to different needs and routines while enhancing comfort, convenience and peace of mind.

The event also featured a dedicated product display area showcasing LG’s latest consumer electronics and home appliances. Visitors could explore new technologies, experience key product features and interact with product specialists to gain a better understanding of the innovations on offer.

Adding an element of entertainment to the experience, visitors could also participate in interactive games including ‘AI Home Hunt’, ‘The Just Right Moment Challenge’ and ‘Cookie Chaos’, with opportunities to win exclusive merchandise, prizes and special discounts.

Through the activation, Abans and LG Electronics provided Sri Lankan consumers with a hands-on introduction to a more human-centred approach to artificial intelligence, demonstrating how smart technology can fit naturally into modern everyday living.
