Apple has officially unveiled its latest Mac Studio in Malaysia, powered by the new M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. Designed for demanding AI workloads and high-performance computing, the new desktop offers up to a 36-core CPU, an 80-core GPU with dedicated GPU Neural Accelerators, and up to 512GB of unified memory.

The new Mac Studio also delivers memory bandwidth of up to 1.2TB/s and introduces Thunderbolt 5 support for enhanced connectivity and performance.

Pre-orders for the new Mac Studio will begin at 9:00 a.m. on August 27, 2026, while general availability is scheduled for September 22. Pricing starts at RM10,999, with education pricing beginning at RM10,099.

Focus on On-Device AI and Enterprise Computing

A key highlight of the latest Mac Studio is Apple’s increased focus on local AI inference and high-performance computing.

The M5 Max configuration features an 18-core CPU, comprising six performance-focused cores and 12 efficiency cores, along with a GPU offering up to 40 cores. Apple claims the configuration delivers up to 3.9 times faster AI performance compared with its predecessor.

For users requiring maximum processing power, the M5 Ultra features up to a 36-core CPU, with 12 performance cores and 24 efficiency cores, alongside an 80-core GPU.

According to Apple, the M5 Ultra delivers up to 4.3 times the peak AI compute performance of the M3 Ultra and up to 9.8 times that of the M1 Ultra.

New AI Frameworks and Mac Studio Clustering

Apple is also introducing its new Core AI framework alongside MLX to support local large language model deployments and other on-device AI workloads.

The company is further expanding the Mac Studio’s enterprise capabilities by allowing multiple units to be clustered using Thunderbolt 5 and Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA).

This approach enables multiple Mac Studio systems to create a large shared memory pool and is claimed to deliver up to three times faster distributed AI inference.

With significant gains in AI processing, expanded unified memory and high-speed Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, the new Mac Studio is positioned as Apple’s most powerful desktop solution for professionals working with AI, advanced content creation and other demanding computing workloads.

Pre-orders in Malaysia will open at 9:00 a.m. on August 27, 2026, with general availability scheduled to begin on September 22. Pricing starts at RM3,799 for the M6 model, while the M5 Pro version starts at RM7,499.

According to Apple, the new Mac mini delivers up to four times faster AI performance and up to 40% faster CPU performance compared with previous-generation models. Both configurations also support Wi-Fi 7 connectivity.

M6 Mac mini: More Power in a Compact Design

The entry-level M6 Mac mini features a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, with Neural Accelerators integrated directly into each GPU core for the first time.

The chip is paired with a dual 16-core Neural Engine and memory bandwidth of up to 170GB/s. Apple says the combination enables demanding multitasking and local large language model (LLM) workloads, with local AI processing reportedly up to 4.8 times faster than the M4 generation.

Graphics performance has also been improved, with the M6 delivering up to twice the graphics performance of its predecessor.

M5 Pro Mac mini for Demanding Workloads

For users requiring greater performance, the M5 Pro configuration scales up to an 18-core CPU and a 20-core GPU featuring third-generation hardware-accelerated ray tracing.

The system supports up to 64GB of unified memory with memory bandwidth reaching 307GB/s, making it suitable for demanding workloads such as complex 3D rendering, video upscaling and large local diffusion models.

Wi-Fi 7, Thunderbolt 5 and Genlock

Both Mac mini configurations come with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and 2.5Gb Ethernet as standard, with support for upgrading to 10Gb Ethernet.

The front panel includes USB-C connectivity and a high-impedance 3.5mm headphone jack. On the rear, the M6 model features three Thunderbolt 4 ports, while the M5 Pro version upgrades these to Thunderbolt 5.

The new Mac mini also supports Genlock through USB-C, enabling synchronisation between displays and cameras. This can be particularly useful for professional video workflows, including setups involving the iPhone 17 Pro.

Running on macOS 27 Golden Gate, the latest Mac mini combines a compact form factor with significantly upgraded processing power, AI performance and connectivity, making it a more capable option for both everyday users and professionals.
