HDFC Bank launches ‘Green Leasing’ with nationwide tree-planting initiative
HDFC Bank of Sri Lanka has launched its latest green financing solution, HDFC Green Leasing, alongside a nationwide tree-planting initiative held in line with the auspicious timing of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year on April 23.
Marking a symbolic and unified beginning, all 39 branches of the Bank conducted simultaneous tree-planting ceremonies across the island, reflecting a collective commitment towards a greener and more sustainable future.
The coordinated effort resulted in the planting of 500 trees islandwide, achieved through collaboration with Pradeshiya Sabhas, Urban Councils, AGA offices, hospitals, schools, preschools, and other government and community institutions. The initiative also saw active participation from a range of stakeholders, underscoring a shared responsibility towards environmental conservation.
The programme primarily focused on planting jackfruit and pomegranate trees, with the objective of enhancing food security by providing sustainable and nutritious food sources for local communities.
Beyond the planting activity, the initiative placed strong emphasis on environmental awareness and education, particularly among younger generations, highlighting the importance of individual and collective responsibility in protecting the environment. This reflects the Bank’s continued commitment to sustainable development and community engagement.
The initiative also marked the official introduction of HDFC Green Leasing, a dedicated financing solution designed to support the purchase of electric vehicles (EVs) and fund environmentally sustainable projects and green initiatives.
This product further strengthens the Bank’s role in promoting eco-friendly investments and supporting the reduction of carbon footprints.
