Uber Eats is now live in Nuwara Eliya, making it easier for both locals and tourists to enjoy their favourite meals—from a hot plate of kottu on a chilly evening to comforting rice and curry or crispy egg hoppers—delivered straight to their doorstep.

Famous for its cool climate, colonial charm, and scenic tea estates, Nuwara Eliya experiences a surge of local and international visitors during the April holiday season. However, as temperatures drop in the evenings, dining options have traditionally been limited, with many outlets closing early.

With the arrival of Uber Eats, customers can now explore and order from a growing selection of local restaurants and neighbourhood favourites without leaving home. The platform also extends access to food later into the night, ensuring convenient meal options even after most eateries have closed. To maintain quality, delivery partners in the city will use specially designed temperature-controlled insulated bags to keep meals hot.

Consumers can choose from a wide range of cuisines, including Sri Lankan, Indian, Chinese, Thai, and Arabic, as well as popular global brands such as KFC, Pizza Hut, and Domino’s.

The launch is also set to benefit the local community by helping restaurants reach a wider customer base while creating flexible earning opportunities for delivery partners, particularly during the busy holiday season.

Commenting on the expansion, Varun Wijewardane, Country Manager – Delivery at Uber Sri Lanka, stated that Nuwara Eliya remains one of the country’s most popular destinations, especially during April. He noted that the launch enhances convenience for customers while supporting local businesses and expanding earning opportunities, as part of Uber Eats’ continued growth across Sri Lanka.
DFCC Bank’s technovation recognition signals a deeper shift in digital banking, highlighting the bank’s growing focus on innovation-driven, customer-centric financial solutions
DFCC Bank’s recognition at the LankaPay Technovation Awards 2026 reflects a deeper transformation underway in digital banking—one that goes beyond technology and focuses on how seamlessly customers can interact with financial services.

In recent years, customer expectations have shifted dramatically. What once required multiple steps—branch visits, paperwork, and waiting periods—is now expected to happen instantly and effortlessly. From fund transfers and payments to onboarding and issue resolution, banking is increasingly judged by speed, simplicity, and convenience.

This evolution is redefining what “good banking” truly means.

Within this context, DFCC Bank’s achievements carry greater significance. The Bank secured a Gold Award for Financial Inclusivity and a Merit Award for Customer Convenience—two categories that now serve as key indicators of meaningful digital progress. Rather than celebrating technology for its own sake, these recognitions highlight how effectively innovation enhances access, reduces friction, and improves everyday banking experiences.

Organised by LankaPay, the Technovation Awards honour institutions shaping Sri Lanka’s digital financial ecosystem. Notably, the focus of these awards has evolved in recent years, mirroring a broader industry shift—from innovation as a measure of capability to innovation as a measure of usability and real-world impact.

This direction aligns closely with DFCC Bank’s ambition to become the most customer-centric bank and the easiest to engage with—prioritising accessibility, inclusivity, and seamless digital experiences at every touchpoint.
