Commercial Bank of Ceylon has significantly expanded its ‘ComBank Shakthi’ Agency Banking network with the addition of 22 new outlets across the island, reinforcing its commitment to delivering a superior and more inclusive banking experience.

With this latest expansion, the Bank’s Agency Banking network now covers 26 strategic locations, including four previously established outlets. This initiative reflects the Bank’s continued focus on accessibility and convenience, extending essential banking services to communities beyond the reach of traditional branches.

The ‘ComBank Shakthi’ model operates through partnerships with carefully selected third-party agents—trusted local businesses and individuals—who act as intermediaries between the Bank and its customers. Through these authorised agents, customers can carry out key banking transactions such as cash deposits and withdrawals, fund transfers, balance inquiries, and bill payments at convenient, nearby locations.

Powered by specialised Point of Sale (POS) devices integrated with the Bank’s proprietary software, the system ensures secure, encrypted connectivity with core banking operations. Transactions are processed in real time, with printed receipts and SMS confirmations enhancing transparency and reliability while maintaining high security standards.

The Bank noted that this expansion represents another milestone in its strategy to bring formal banking services to underserved and unbanked communities. By offering a technology-enabled alternative to traditional banking, the initiative reduces the time and cost customers would otherwise incur when travelling to branches.

The Agency Banking network is closely aligned with the Bank’s Agriculture and Micro Finance Units (AMFU), leveraging long-standing community relationships in rural areas. This integration allows the Bank to deepen its outreach while building on established trust within local communities.

Beyond convenience, the initiative supports broader financial inclusion by enabling individuals and small businesses to access formal financial services, build savings, and participate more actively in the economy.

The newly added ComBank Shakthi outlets are located in Katupotha, Hengamuwa, Budumuttawa, Malwathuhiripitiya, Udugampola, Koswatte, Kotiyakumbura, Akkarayankulam, Oddusudan, Baduraliya, Bombuwala, Yattapatha, Kadihingala, Batukotuwa, Wanathawilluwa, Vankalai, Pesalai, Akkaraipattu, Thirukkovil, Siththandi, Puthukkudirippu, and Lahugala. These join earlier pilot locations in Tissamaharama, Hambantota, Siyambalanduwa, and Buttala.

The Agency Banking outlets complement the Bank’s extensive network of 272 branches, bringing its total physical customer access points to 298 across Sri Lanka.

Commercial Bank stated that the continued growth of the ‘ComBank Shakthi’ network underscores its commitment to innovation and inclusive banking, empowering more communities and supporting greater participation in the country’s financial system.
