Meta has announced a new set of parental supervision features across Instagram and Facebook, aimed at giving parents greater insight into how teenagers interact with content and recommendation systems. The update expands the company’s existing family supervision tools amid growing global concerns over teen safety, mental health, and algorithmic influence.

Parents gain insight into content recommendations

One of the key additions allows parents to view the types of content categories being recommended to their teens by Instagram and Facebook algorithms. This includes general interest areas such as sports, fashion, travel, gaming, fitness, entertainment, and other content themes.

Meta says the updated system will also improve transparency around screen time, account activity, and changes made to account settings. Parents will be able to see broader information about how teens use the platform, including privacy settings and usage patterns.

However, the company emphasises that the tools are designed to encourage open discussions between parents and teenagers rather than serve as strict monitoring systems. Teens will still retain control over certain account features, while parents receive higher-level visibility and guidance.

Rising scrutiny over teen safety

The rollout comes as Meta faces increasing pressure from regulators and advocacy groups over the impact of social media algorithms on younger users. Concerns include screen addiction, online safety risks, and mental health effects linked to recommendation-driven content.

In response, Meta has been gradually introducing Teen Accounts, stricter default safety settings, parental supervision tools, and AI-based safety features across its platforms.
Shokz OpenFit Pro launches in Malaysia with open-ear noise reduction and Dolby Atmos support, priced at RM1,199
Shokz Malaysia has officially launched the Shokz OpenFit Pro in the country, introducing upgraded open-ear audio technology with active noise reduction and Dolby Atmos support. The new flagship earbuds aim to deliver a balance between immersive sound and environmental awareness.

Shokz OpenFit Pro

A key highlight of the OpenFit Pro is Shokz’s first-ever open-ear noise reduction system. Unlike traditional in-ear designs that fully block outside sound, this system reduces unwanted noise while still allowing users to stay aware of their surroundings.

The earbuds use a triple-microphone setup with adaptive noise reduction algorithms that can detect both external and in-ear noise in real time. Users can switch between different listening modes depending on their environment, whether commuting, exercising, or working in public spaces.

Audio performance and features

The OpenFit Pro is powered by a dual-diaphragm driver system combined with Shokz SuperBoost technology, designed to improve bass response, clarity, and overall sound detail while minimising distortion. It also supports Dolby Atmos and head-tracked spatial audio for a more immersive listening experience.

Through the Shokz app, users can customise EQ settings and audio profiles. The earbuds also feature a lightweight 12.3g-per-earbud design with flexible nickel-titanium ear hooks for comfort during long usage sessions.

Additional features include IP55 water resistance, Bluetooth 6.1 connectivity, multipoint pairing, wear detection, and physical controls for reliable operation during workouts and outdoor use. Battery life is rated at up to 12 hours per charge, extending to 50 hours with the charging case, with fast charging providing around four hours of playback from a 10-minute charge.

Shokz expands retail presence in Malaysia

Alongside the launch, Shokz has opened its first mono-brand store in Malaysia at IOI City Mall, showcasing its full product lineup including OpenRun, OpenComm, OpenFit, and the new OpenFit Pro.

The company says Malaysia is a key growth market, driven by increasing demand for open-ear audio solutions that support active and mobile lifestyles while maintaining environmental awareness.
