Apple has released iPadOS 26.5 for supported iPads, introducing a set of updates focused on services, subscriptions, and system-level improvements as part of a broader push toward platform and developer infrastructure changes.

This late-cycle release does not bring major interface changes. Instead, most of the work happens in the background, meaning everyday usage remains largely the same for most users.

A key area of change is Apple Maps, which now includes ads in selected search results. These can appear at the top of queries such as nearby restaurants or gas stations, changing how results are surfaced without affecting navigation itself. Alongside this, the “Suggested Places” feature highlights locations based on trends, recent searches, and local activity. As a result, results are no longer determined only by relevance and proximity, since paid placements can also influence visibility.

Apple is also using this update to expand its advertising presence into local search. While ads are clearly labeled and based on signals like search terms and location rather than personal profiles, they now play a role in shaping discovery within Maps.

On the subscription side, iPadOS 26.5 introduces a new App Store billing option that allows developers to offer monthly payments tied to a 12-month commitment. This model is being rolled out in most regions, excluding the United States and Singapore. It gives users pricing similar to discounted annual plans, but spreads payments monthly—while still locking in a full-year subscription once started.

The update carries build number 23F77.
Apple TV+’s The Studio has been named the most-awarded series of the year
Apple TV+ continues its award-winning streak, with The Studio making history as the first comedy ever to sweep all major awards in a single season.

At the 2026 BAFTA Awards held on May 10, Apple secured three wins overall. Two awards went to Will Smith for drama writing on Slow Horses, while Rob Coldstream was recognized for factual direction on Vietnam: The War That Changed America.

The standout moment, however, was The Studio winning in the International category. That victory cemented its place as a record-breaking series, making it the first comedy in history to achieve a full sweep across major awards in a single season.

Matt Cherniss, Apple TV’s head of programming, praised the achievement, calling the show’s success “nothing short of astounding” and crediting the cast and creative team, including Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, for its innovation and impact.
