Customers purchasing the upcoming iPhone Duo from an Apple Store in the United States could receive a personalised welcome when they switch on their new smartphone for the first time.
The iPhone Duo is scheduled to become available to the public on October 23, with pre-orders beginning on October 12. However, customers opting for the in-store Apple purchasing experience may receive an additional personalisation feature during the device’s initial setup.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who shared the information in a post on X late Friday, Apple retail stores will have a system that allows the iPhone Duo’s initial startup screen to be customised with the buyer’s name.
When switched on for the first time, the device is expected to display a personalised greeting, such as “Hello, John”, instead of the standard welcome message.
Although the exact process has not been confirmed, the feature could potentially use Apple’s Presto system, which allows software updates to be installed on compatible iPhones while they remain in their unopened packaging.
Gurman indicated that Apple Stores would have a dedicated system to enable the personalisation.
However, it remains unclear whether users will be able to change or disable the greeting after purchasing the device.
The feature is expected to have limited availability.
According to the report, it will be offered only at Apple retail outlets in the United States, exclusively for the iPhone Duo, with English and Spanish supported for the personalised greeting.
