Meta has introduced Muse Image, its first image generation model developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs, bringing advanced AI-powered image creation capabilities to users through Meta AI from 7 July 2026.

The new generative AI model uses advanced visual reasoning technology to create and edit images, allowing users to blend photos, modify backgrounds and generate styled visuals with readable text for content such as infographics.

Initially available on Instagram, Muse Image is expected to expand to other Meta platforms, including Facebook and WhatsApp, in the future. However, the launch has raised privacy concerns as the feature may access users’ photos by default unless they choose to disable related settings.

AI Features Across Meta Platforms

Powered alongside the Muse Spark model for multi-step reasoning, Muse Image introduces more than 30 AI-powered story effects on Instagram and enables users to create visuals directly within WhatsApp conversations.

The system also includes deeper integration with Meta’s platforms, allowing users to mention public Instagram profiles in prompts to use visual references or transform room designs using real products listed on Facebook Marketplace.

For users concerned about privacy, Meta provides settings to disable the @-mention tagging feature that allows AI tools to reference public profiles.

Meta is also working on Muse Video, an upcoming AI video generation model, while further expansion to Facebook, Messenger and advertising tools such as Advantage+ creative is expected in future updates.

How to Disable Meta AI Reuse Features on Instagram

Users who do not want their content to be reused by Meta’s AI features can adjust their settings by following these steps:

Open Instagram and go to your profile page.
Tap the three-line menu in the top-right corner to access Settings.
Select Sharing and reuse.
Turn off the options under “Allow people to reuse your content on Instagram and with AI features at Meta.”

While Muse Image offers powerful new creative possibilities, the feature also highlights the growing balance between AI innovation and digital privacy. As generative AI becomes more integrated into social platforms, users will increasingly need to consider how much access they are comfortable providing in exchange for new creative tools.
