As Sri Lanka continues to position itself as a responsible tourism destination, Hayleys Mobility Limited and Jetwing Travels are taking steps to make travel across the island more environmentally sustainable through the adoption of new-energy mobility solutions.
The collaboration focuses on reducing the environmental impact of ground transportation, an important component of the tourism experience, while preserving the comfort, reliability and service standards expected by both local and international visitors.
Shiromal Cooray, Chairman and Managing Director of Jetwing Travels, said:
“This investment is part of our continued effort to make responsible travel more tangible across every stage of the guest journey. By introducing plug-in hybrid technology to our fleet, we are taking a practical step towards reducing the environmental impact of ground transportation, while continuing to deliver the comfort, reliability and flexibility our guests expect when travelling across Sri Lanka.”
As part of the initiative, Hayleys Mobility has supplied 21 JAECOO J7 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) to Jetwing Travels. The vehicles will be used by Jetwing Travels and Jetwing Journeys for airport transfers, excursions and longer tours across the country.
Hayleys Mobility is supported by its parent company, Hayleys Fentons Limited, the energy, mobility and projects arm of Hayleys PLC, Sri Lanka’s largest and most diversified conglomerate. The group’s engineering expertise, nationwide capabilities and established infrastructure provide a foundation for supporting the country’s evolving mobility requirements.
Hasith Prematillake, Managing Director of Hayleys Fentons Limited, said:
“Sustainable mobility must deliver both environmental and commercial value if it is to be adopted at scale. With approximately 90 kilometres of electric-only driving, a combined range of up to 1,200 kilometres and an estimated saving of around LKR 15 per kilometre compared with petrol-powered driving, the JAECOO J7 PHEV presents a strong proposition for high-mileage fleet operators.”
