Browns Plantations has been honoured with the Chairman’s Recognition for Sustainable Excellence at the Sri Lankan Sustainability Awards (SSA) 2026, recognising its leadership in sustainable plantation management and environmental stewardship.
The prestigious award acknowledges the vision and leadership of Dr. Pradeep Uluwaduge, Executive Chairman of Browns Plantations and Group Chief Sustainability Officer of LOLC Holdings PLC, for championing sustainability through climate action, biodiversity conservation, renewable energy, digital innovation, and community development.
As one of Sri Lanka’s largest plantation companies, Browns Plantations manages more than 44,270 hectares across 70 estates and operates 43 tea and rubber factories, employing over 15,000 people. The company cultivates tea, rubber, cinnamon, coconut, timber and other plantation crops while embedding sustainability at the heart of its business strategy.
Among its landmark achievements are securing the world’s first Climate Neutral Citizen Certification for a plantation company chairman and the world’s first Deforestation-Free Standard Certification awarded to Hapugastenne Plantations PLC.
Browns Plantations has also strengthened biodiversity conservation by protecting 4,488 hectares of conservation land, including 1,159 hectares bordering the Sinharaja Forest Reserve buffer zone. The company has further enhanced wildlife conservation through initiatives such as the Depedene Estate Elephant Corridor, promoting harmonious coexistence between wildlife and plantation communities.
In its efforts to combat climate change, the company has invested in a 2.48 MW solar energy programme, generating more than 3.56 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually. Its broader sustainability portfolio also includes hydropower projects, rainwater harvesting systems with a storage capacity exceeding 8.1 million litres, composting programmes, and a 4,000-hectare carbon credit initiative.
The recognition at the SSA 2026 highlights Browns Plantations' commitment to balancing commercial success with environmental responsibility, reinforcing its position as a leader in sustainable plantation management in Sri Lanka.
AAT Sri Lanka Honours 2,179 Passed Finalists
The Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AAT Sri Lanka) recently honoured 2,179 passed finalists at its Passed Finalists’ Diploma Awarding Ceremony, held at the Main Conference Hall of the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo.
The ceremony recognised students who successfully completed the Final Level of the January 2026 AAT Examinations, awarding them the Diploma in Accounting and Business. Representing every district of Sri Lanka, each finalist was accompanied by a guest to celebrate this important milestone in their academic and professional journey.
Due to the large number of recipients, the event was conducted in three separate sessions, welcoming an audience of approximately 4,000 attendees throughout the day, making it one of the largest Passed Finalists’ Diploma Awarding Ceremonies organised by AAT Sri Lanka.
By successfully completing the Final Level of the AAT qualification, the graduates earned the NVQ Level 5 equivalent Diploma in Accounting and Business, equipping them with the knowledge, practical skills and professional competencies required to pursue careers in accounting, finance and business.
Upon completing the prescribed practical training and the People and Leadership Skills Workshop, the graduates become eligible to obtain the prestigious Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (MAAT) designation, marking the next step in their professional development.
Recognised as one of the first professional qualifications pursued by many students after the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination, AAT Sri Lanka has spent more than three decades providing young Sri Lankans with a strong foundation for careers in accounting and finance.
Under the leadership of President Dr. Chamara Bandara and the Governing Council, the Association continues to expand opportunities for aspiring professionals through accessible, industry-focused education, practical training and skills development programmes, helping prepare the next generation of accounting and business professionals in Sri Lanka.
