Sri Lanka’s technology industry traded keyboards for cricket bats as the Technocity | Lenovo Premier League 2026 (TLPL 2026) brought together 18 leading companies from the country’s IT sector for a day of competitive cricket, teamwork and camaraderie.

More than a corporate cricket tournament, TLPL 2026 was designed as a platform to connect people across Sri Lanka’s technology ecosystem, bringing together not only business owners and managers but also employees representing their respective organisations.

The event was attended by Famy Ismail, Chairman of Technocity Group; Minhaj Farook, Director of Laptop.lk; and Siraj Jabir, Country Business Head – Lenovo Sri Lanka.

Commenting on the initiative, Famy Ismail said TLPL provided an opportunity to bring the technology community together in a different environment.

“Business is built on relationships, and events like this allow people to compete passionately while developing friendships that can continue well beyond the cricket field,” he said.

The tournament offered a cash prize of Rs. 400,000 to the champions, while the runners-up received Rs. 200,000. Individual awards were also presented to recognise outstanding performances, including Best Batsman, Best Bowler and Man of the Match.

However, recognition at TLPL 2026 extended beyond the winning teams. In a first-of-its-kind initiative announced during the tournament, Technocity will take players from all 18 participating teams, together with their respective team managers, on a fully sponsored one-day adventure and team-building experience in Kitulgala, including white-water rafting.

The initiative is notable as many incentive programmes, overseas tours and partnership events within the IT industry traditionally focus on recognising top-performing sales personnel, managers, business owners or selected partners. TLPL 2026, however, placed the spotlight on employees representing participating organisations.

Minhaj Farook said cricket offered a strong reflection of the business environment, where individual talent must be combined with teamwork to achieve common goals.
