Ceyconnect (Pvt) Ltd, a subsidiary of the Ceyline Group, has introduced Sri Lanka’s first long-haul Electric Vehicle (EV) prime mover, deploying the vehicle within the outbound supply chain operations of Lion Brewery (Ceylon) PLC as part of an ongoing sustainability-focused partnership.
The introduction of the EV prime mover marks a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s logistics sector, extending the collaboration between Lion Brewery and Ceyline Group from energy-efficient warehousing solutions into cleaner and more sustainable transportation.
Previously, Ceyline Group supported Lion Brewery’s operations through the development of energy-efficient warehousing facilities. The latest initiative expands this commitment by introducing zero-emission heavy-duty transport solutions to the company’s logistics network.
Commenting on the initiative, Radesh Daluwatte, CEO of Ceyline Group, said the project represents a strategic effort to assess the potential of long-haul electric transport while demonstrating its commercial and economic feasibility.
He added that the initiative aims to accelerate sustainability across the logistics and maritime sectors while creating practical solutions that deliver environmental and business value.
Prabath Karunaratne, General Manager of Ceyconnect, said the deployment demonstrates that heavy-duty commercial transportation in Sri Lanka can achieve high performance while operating with zero emissions.
Meanwhile, Kaveen Gayathma, Senior Vice President of Outbound Logistics at Lion Brewery (Ceylon) PLC, highlighted that integrating the EV prime mover represents another important investment in the company’s sustainability journey and cleaner energy transition goals.
Ceyconnect plans to gradually expand its electric vehicle fleet supporting Lion Brewery’s outbound logistics network, further strengthening the shift towards environmentally responsible freight transportation.
Operating across Sri Lanka’s logistics sector, Ceyconnect manages a diverse fleet ranging from delivery trucks to heavy-duty prime movers, while also providing multimodal rail-road logistics solutions for leading businesses. Through this initiative, the company continues to support the transition towards greener and more efficient supply chain operations.
