The countdown has begun as C Rugby returns for its landmark 10th edition, promising an action-packed weekend that goes beyond traditional rugby rivalry. Scheduled for Friday 17 and Saturday 18 July at the CR&FC Grounds, the C Rugby Tag Rugby Tournament will combine competitive sport, entertainment, music, and community spirit for an unforgettable celebration.

What began as a reunion event for old boys’ schools has grown into one of Sri Lanka’s most anticipated rugby gatherings. This year’s tournament introduces exciting new elements, including a Corporate Segment and Exhibition Games, adding fresh dimensions to the popular format built around shared traditions, friendships, and sporting camaraderie.

A total of 16 teams representing schools and corporates will compete in the five-a-side tag rugby tournament, which has become a premier platform for reconnecting communities through sport.

Organised by AGOAL International, led by rugby personality Dilroy Fernando — a former Isipathana College, CR&FC, and national rugby player as well as an international rugby referee — the tournament continues to grow as a celebration of rugby culture and entertainment.

The event is supported by partners including Cinnamon Hotels, Iodex, Red Bull, Frosty, CR&FC, and YES 101.

The tournament will officially commence on Friday, 17 July at 4.00 pm with the corporate league and pool-stage matches, followed by a social evening at the clubhouse featuring live entertainment by the band OIC.

On Saturday, 18 July, starting from 2.00 pm, old boys’ and old girls’ teams will compete through the preliminary rounds, leading into the Cup, Plate, and Bowl competitions before the championship finals determine this year’s winners.

Beyond the rugby action, the event will feature the C Rugby Tropical Jam Party, beginning at 3.00 pm on Saturday, with performances by Slipping Chairs, Cold Sweat, Section 8, and DJ Lunatics. A Food Boutique by Cinnamon Grand, family activities, games, and a children’s play area will add to the carnival atmosphere, making C Rugby a celebration for players, families, and fans alike.

As C Rugby enters its second decade, the tournament continues to evolve while staying true to its original spirit — bringing people together through the passion, friendship, and excitement of rugby.
