Ceylinco Life has rewarded 80 members of its sales force with overseas tours to Vietnam and China in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the Company’s 2025 sales competitions.
The winning sales representatives were divided into two groups, with 62 travelling to Vietnam and 18 visiting China as a reward for their strong sales performance.
The Vietnam tour offered participants a combination of cultural experiences, historical landmarks and scenic attractions. In Hanoi, the group visited the Ho Chi Minh Complex, One Pillar Pagoda and Tran Quoc Pagoda, while also enjoying a buffet lunch at Maison Sen. A cyclo tour around Hoan Kiem Lake provided an opportunity to experience the local atmosphere of the Vietnamese capital.
The itinerary continued with an Aurora Cruise through the UNESCO-recognised waters of Ha Long Bay. Participants enjoyed lunch on board while taking in the bay’s striking limestone formations. The tour also included visits to Sung Sot Cave, an excursion to Luun Cave by kayak or bamboo boat, and a visit to Titop Island. The day concluded with a sunset party featuring music and happy hour on the cruise’s sundeck.
Meanwhile, the 18 sales achievers who travelled to China explored Beijing’s rich history and cultural heritage. Their itinerary featured visits to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, as well as the Summer Palace, where they enjoyed a traditional boat ride on Kunming Lake.
Another highlight was a visit to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall of China, with a round-trip cable car ride offering convenient access to this renowned landmark.
Through these overseas tours, Ceylinco Life continues to recognise the achievements of its sales force, rewarding strong performance with opportunities to explore new destinations and create lasting memories.
MELWA enters the cement market with locally developed brands
MELWA Conglomerate, a diversified Sri Lankan business group, has expanded into the cement industry with the launch of MELWA Cement, a Sri Lankan brand manufactured at its modern cement blending and packaging facility in Seeduwa.
The new venture aims to support the country’s construction industry by offering a range of cement products, including Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC), Portland Slag Cement (PSC) and Portland Limestone Cement (PLC).
According to the company, the facility incorporates modern technology and an enclosed production process designed to enhance operational efficiency while supporting responsible manufacturing practices.
Imported raw materials, including clinker and gypsum, are transported to the Seeduwa facility in enclosed vehicles before being transferred through a fully enclosed pneumatic conveying system into dedicated storage silos. The materials are then finely blended in a cement mill to ensure a consistent mixture before the finished products are stored in specially designed silos.
MELWA stated that its dry manufacturing process does not involve combustion or the use of water, generating no wastewater or combustion emissions. A modern bag-filtering system is also used to control dust during operations.
The finished cement is conveyed through enclosed systems to a fully automated packaging facility, where it is packed into bags or loaded directly into bulk transport tankers according to customer requirements.
Beyond its contribution to the construction sector, the project is expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities while supporting local businesses, including retailers, suppliers, transport operators and construction-related enterprises.
The company also expects its MELWA Foundation to contribute to community development through initiatives focused on healthcare, education and environmental conservation.
