Evolution Auto (Pvt) Ltd, the authorised distributor for Xpeng in Sri Lanka, has launched the new-generation Xpeng G6, marking a significant step forward in the country’s rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market.

The official launch event was held on May 22 at Evolution Auto’s multi-brand showroom in Colombo 05 and brought together media representatives, industry stakeholders, and invited guests for the unveiling of the premium intelligent electric SUV.

Guests were given the opportunity to experience the vehicle through live demonstrations and test drives, showcasing the G6’s advanced technology, performance, and intelligent features.

The introduction of the Xpeng G6 comes at a pivotal time for Sri Lanka’s New Energy Vehicle sector, as consumer interest in electric mobility continues to grow. The model aims to address key market concerns such as driving range, availability of premium EV options, and aftersales support by offering globally competitive technology backed by strong international partnerships.

Speaking at the launch, Evolution Auto Head of Marketing Ashan Wickramasinghe said the company’s vision extends beyond introducing a new vehicle to the market.

“We are not just bringing a car to Sri Lanka. We are bringing a new standard in technology, in ownership experience, and in what Sri Lankan consumers should expect from a modern electric vehicle,” he said.

Positioned within the premium mid-to-upper electric SUV segment, the Xpeng G6 offers a WLTP-certified driving range of up to 480 kilometres, providing greater convenience and confidence for EV users.

One of the vehicle’s standout features is XPILOT, Xpeng’s proprietary Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). The system includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centering Assist, automated parking capabilities, and remote summon functionality, enhancing both safety and driving convenience while maintaining full driver responsibility in accordance with Level 2 autonomy standards.

With the launch of the G6, Evolution Auto aims to elevate Sri Lanka’s EV landscape by introducing advanced intelligent mobility solutions that combine innovation, performance, and practicality for modern drivers.
HayWind Receives Initial 25 MW Turbine Shipment for Mannar Wind Farm Project
HayWind One Limited, the wind energy arm of Hayleys Fentons Limited, has reached a significant milestone in the development of its 50 MW Wind Farm Project in Mannar, with the arrival of the first batch of wind turbines, representing 25 MW of the project’s total capacity, at the Trincomalee Port.

Once operational, the wind farm is expected to make a substantial contribution to Sri Lanka’s renewable energy capacity while generating cumulative savings of approximately Rs. 100 billion in imported fossil fuel costs over its estimated 20-year lifespan. The project is set to enhance national energy security and support the country’s transition towards cleaner and more cost-effective energy generation.

Manufactured by Envision Energy Technology Pte Ltd, five of the project’s ten wind turbines have now arrived and will be transported to the Mannar project site. The transfer of turbine components from Trincomalee is scheduled to continue over the next three months.

The delivery marks one of the largest and most complex renewable energy transportation operations undertaken in Sri Lanka. Oversized turbine blades, tower sections and nacelles will be moved across several districts through a carefully coordinated heavy-haul logistics programme, supported by extensive engineering assessments and detailed route planning to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of components to the Mannar site.
