The Grand Finales of the SLIoT Challenge and IESL RoboGames recently concluded, providing a vibrant platform for Sri Lanka's young innovators to demonstrate their technical expertise, creativity and problem-solving capabilities.

As part of its commitment to supporting the Government's digital transformation agenda and nurturing future-ready talent, SLT-MOBITEL partnered with the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Moratuwa to support the competitions.

Designed to inspire the next generation of technology professionals, the Grand Finales brought together school students, university undergraduates and technology enthusiasts, who showcased innovative solutions and competed in a series of exciting challenges.

The event featured live demonstrations of cutting-edge projects and robotics innovations, highlighting the growing potential of Sri Lanka's young technology talent to contribute to the country's digital future through innovation and technical excellence.

With SLT-MOBITEL's continued support, the SLIoT Challenge 2026 provided participants across school, undergraduate and open categories with an opportunity to present innovative Internet of Things (IoT) solutions addressing real-world challenges.

Finalists exhibited their projects at dedicated innovation zones, including GTN Lab, ICE Room, InsightHub, SLIoT Lab and Sysco LABS, showcasing practical applications of emerging technologies across a range of industries. The competition underscored SLT-MOBITEL's ongoing commitment to fostering innovation and accelerating Sri Lanka's digital transformation.

In the School Category, Team Quarista from Royal College, Colombo, claimed the championship with its Smart Waste Management System.

The Undergraduate Category title was awarded to Team Eluvis from the University of Moratuwa for its Smart Shrimp Farm Monitoring System, while RoboticGen Labs emerged victorious in the Open Category with its Employee Transport Management System, demonstrating innovative solutions with strong commercial and practical potential.
CanCham SL Hosts High-Level Dialogue on Women’s Economic Empowerment and SME Sustainability
The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka (CanCham SL) recently hosted a high-level dialogue on "Women in Development, Economic Empowerment and the Sustainability of SMEs" at CanCham House, bringing together leaders from the public and private sectors, development partners and entrepreneurs from Sri Lanka, India and Canada.

Held on 17 June 2026, the forum explored practical strategies to strengthen women’s economic participation, improve the sustainability of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and promote inclusive economic growth.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Hina Shah, Founder of the International Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (ICECD) in India, who shared insights drawn from decades of experience in empowering women entrepreneurs. She highlighted the critical role women-led businesses play in driving economic development and social transformation, while reflecting on India's experience in building resilient SME ecosystems.

Established with the support of Global Affairs Canada and under the patronage of the Canadian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, CanCham SL continues to promote stronger trade, investment, innovation and people-to-people ties between Sri Lanka and Canada. Advancing women's economic empowerment remains a key priority, reflecting Canada's broader commitment to gender equality and inclusive economic development.

Discussions during the forum centred on improving market access for women entrepreneurs, strengthening business ecosystems, expanding financial inclusion and enhancing the long-term sustainability of women-led SMEs.

As part of its ongoing commitment to the sector, CanCham SL announced plans to establish a core stakeholder group comprising representatives from Sri Lanka, Canada and the wider Indo-Pacific region to develop a long-term strategic framework for women's entrepreneurship and SME development.

The Chamber also revealed plans to host an Economic Summit for Women, providing a platform to expand these discussions, showcase successful women-led enterprises and foster new partnerships for investment, innovation and regional collaboration.
