Sofia Colombo, a leading city hotel in Colombo, has announced that it has achieved the prestigious certification of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), becoming the first hotel in Sri Lanka to earn this distinction.

The GSTC certification signifies Sofia Colombo’s commitment to internationally recognized sustainability standards, encompassing environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic viability. The certification was awarded by Control Union, a GSTC-accredited body since 2016, which conducts independent audits of hotels and tourism operators against globally accepted sustainability criteria.

This milestone positions Sofia Colombo at the forefront of sustainable hospitality in Sri Lanka, strengthening its long-term commercial potential while differentiating the hotel within an increasingly competitive market.

Recognizing the growing importance of sustainability in global tourism, the hotel’s management proactively initiated and implemented comprehensive sustainability strategies. These efforts reflect both the responsibility of operating as a city hotel and the need to align with evolving industry expectations.

With many international markets—particularly within the European Union—expected to prioritise certified sustainable accommodations from 2027 onwards, Sofia Colombo’s early adoption of GSTC standards places it in a strong position to attract future global demand.

The hotel has also established clear sustainability objectives and fostered an organisational culture that supports responsible tourism, reinforcing its commitment to long-term environmental and social impact.

Coca-Cola Sri Lanka Secures Fifth Consecutive Youth Choice Beverage Brand Win at SLIM-Kantar People’s Awards 2026

Coca-Cola Sri Lanka has been named the Youth Choice Beverage Brand of the Year at the SLIM-Kantar People’s Awards 2026, marking its fifth consecutive win in the category.

Organised by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) in partnership with Kantar, the awards are among the country’s most prominent consumer-voted platforms, recognising brands based on public opinion, brand preference, and consumer sentiment across diverse categories.

This recognition comes at a time when youth preferences continue to evolve, influenced by changing lifestyles, digital engagement, and cultural trends. Despite this dynamic landscape, Coca-Cola Sri Lanka has remained consistently relevant among young consumers, maintaining a strong presence in everyday shared experiences.

Commenting on the achievement, Country Director Mario Perera stated:
"From the outset, our focus has been on staying close to how young Sri Lankans live, connect, and spend their time, recognising that expectations continue to evolve. This recognition reflects that ongoing effort, and we remain committed to engaging meaningfully with people and communities."

Beyond its brand presence, Coca-Cola Sri Lanka continues to support initiatives in education, community development, and environmental sustainability. Among these is the “Give Back Life” programme, which focuses on water stewardship through conservation, replenishment, and improving community access to water resources. Implemented across multiple locations, the initiative also engages local communities and youth in environmental awareness and conservation efforts.
