Baby Cheramy, Sri Lanka’s trusted baby care brand, has successfully reaffirmed its exclusive ownership and intellectual property rights over its brand identity following a favourable court ruling against a deceptively similar imitation brand operating under the name ‘Baby Sherami’.

The court decision confirmed Baby Cheramy’s sole and lawful ownership of its brand name, identity, and associated intellectual property, recognising that unauthorised imitations that create confusion among consumers and trade partners — whether through visual, phonetic, or conceptual similarities — constitute a violation of the company’s protected rights.

The ruling further strengthens the legal safeguards surrounding Baby Cheramy’s long-established reputation as an authentic brand trusted by generations of Sri Lankan families.

The legal action was initiated as part of Baby Cheramy’s continued commitment to protecting consumer trust, preserving brand integrity, and preventing misleading or counterfeit products from reaching the market. The company has taken proactive measures to ensure parents and caregivers are able to confidently identify and purchase genuine Baby Cheramy products.

Commenting on the verdict, a company spokesperson said the court ruling represents a clear affirmation of Baby Cheramy’s exclusive brand rights and its ongoing responsibility to safeguard the trust placed in the brand by consumers nationwide.

The spokesperson added that the company will continue to pursue appropriate legal action against any attempts to imitate, misuse, or misrepresent the Baby Cheramy brand, while maintaining its commitment to quality, safety, and reliability in baby care products.

Baby Cheramy has also advised consumers, retailers, and distributors to remain vigilant and ensure that only authentic Baby Cheramy products are purchased and supplied, warning that any attempts to replicate the brand will be met with immediate legal action.

The landmark ruling not only protects Baby Cheramy’s intellectual property but also reinforces its position as an ethical, transparent, and consumer-focused brand. Through continuous market monitoring and decisive action against imitation products, Baby Cheramy continues to uphold its commitment to delivering safe, trusted, and high-quality baby care solutions for Sri Lankan families.
Colombo Athletic Football Academy advances to knockout stage in debut IBER Cup appearance
Colombo Athletic Football Academy has achieved a landmark milestone by becoming the first academy team from Sri Lanka to participate in the prestigious IBER Cup, one of the world’s leading international youth football tournaments, and advancing to the knockout stage in its debut appearance.

Held in Portugal, the IBER Cup brings together around 120 teams from nearly 40 countries annually, providing a global platform for emerging football talent. The tournament has featured several players who have gone on to become professional football stars, including Bernardo Silva, Rúben Dias, Nuno Mendes, Rafael Leão, and Vitinha during their youth careers.

Making their first appearance on the European stage, Colombo Athletic delivered an impressive performance by securing two victories from four group-stage matches before progressing to the knockout round. The academy faced a highly competitive group featuring three Portuguese teams and one Spanish team, competing against some of the top-ranked academy sides from Portugal, Spain, and the UAE.

Despite eventually bowing out in the knockout stage following a challenging encounter, Colombo Athletic’s performance earned the academy recognition as an IBER Cup-ranked team, marking a significant achievement for Sri Lankan youth football. The team is currently ranked sixth in its group.

The academy considers the tournament experience a valuable learning opportunity and an important step in its long-term mission to elevate football development in Sri Lanka. This achievement further highlights the impact of Colombo Athletic’s collaboration with AC Milan, with players benefiting from training programmes conducted through AC Milan camps held in both Colombo and Milan, following the club’s renowned development methodology.

Commenting on the achievement, Colombo Athletic Football Academy President Ajai Vir Singh said the team’s progress beyond the group stage exceeded expectations, given the strength of the opposition.

“This is a very proud moment. We honestly did not expect to move beyond the group stages, especially after being placed alongside three Portuguese teams and a Spanish team. The fact that we progressed is a testament to the performance of our players and the quality of football development we are building. We are excited about what lies ahead as we continue our journey of developing young talent,” he said.

The academy’s first European tournament appearance represents a major milestone in its vision to introduce a new football culture in Sri Lanka and nurture the next generation of players through international-standard training.

Colombo Athletic Football Academy conducts weekly training programmes and welcomes boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 17 to join its development pathway and experience its football methodology.
