SHEvolve ’26, a flagship women’s empowerment initiative organised by AIESEC in University of Colombo, is set to take place on May 9 from 9.00 a.m. onwards at the New Arts Theatre. Building on the success of its previous edition—which welcomed over 500 delegates and featured Anudi Gunasekara, Miss World Sri Lanka 2024—this year’s event aims to deliver an even more impactful platform for dialogue and change.

Centered around the theme “Beyond the Surface: Rethinking the Realities of Being a Woman,” SHEvolve ’26 seeks to challenge societal norms, address stigmas, and foster deeper understanding of issues affecting women today.

The event will feature a thought-provoking panel discussion with distinguished speakers, including:

Gangulee Walpola – Attorney-at-Law and corporate legal professional
Sade Greenwood – Miss World Sri Lanka 2021 and Co-founder of Mullwood
Ayisha Ziauddin – Family Medicine Physician and Co-founder of the Muslim Women’s Collective
Vithara Mannage – Lecturer in Entrepreneurship and Business Management at APIIT Sri Lanka

Each panelist will bring unique insights to key topics such as:

Unlearning to empower: education, mindsets, and internal barriers
Voice, visibility, and rights in the digital age
Women’s health, stigma, and awareness
Beauty standards and societal expectations

The programme will also feature a keynote address by Yasodhara Pathanjali, a British Sri Lankan life coach, educator, and co-founder of the Independent Collective School—Sri Lanka’s first modern alternative school.

Adding a dynamic touch to the event, Anderson Kirubaharan, stand-up comedian and public speaking coach, will host an engaging entertainment session.

With interactive segments and meaningful discussions, SHEvolve ’26 promises to be a powerful platform that inspires conversation, encourages reflection, and drives positive change in society.
GM of Sun Siyam Pasikudah Elected President of East Coast Hotel Association
Hoteliers from across Sri Lanka’s Eastern Coast convened on April 10, 2026, at Sun Siyam Pasikudah, marking a significant milestone for the Eastern Coast Hotel Association (ECHA) with the appointment of Arshed Refai, General Manager of the resort, as its new President.

The gathering represented more than a routine appointment—it reflected a shared vision among East Coast hoteliers to elevate Pasikudah as a leading destination. With its tranquil bay, relaxed atmosphere, and natural beauty, the region is increasingly seen as ready to emerge from the shadows and claim its place on Sri Lanka’s tourism map.

ECHA continues to unite hoteliers along the Eastern Coast under a common goal: enhancing Pasikudah’s visibility, strengthening collaboration among member properties, and building a unified industry voice. The newly appointed committee includes Neranjan as Vice President, Ruwan as Secretary, Priyanka as Treasurer, and Hafi as Assistant Treasurer.

In his remarks, Arshed Refai outlined a vision that extends beyond individual properties, focusing on positioning Pasikudah as a premier tourist destination both locally and regionally. He also highlighted the importance of sustainability—emphasising responsible practices such as waste reduction, energy conservation, community engagement, and coastal preservation.

“We are stronger together,” he noted. “Pasikudah offers extraordinary natural beauty, warm hospitality, and immense potential. By working collectively, we can elevate its profile, attract quality visitors, and ensure memorable experiences that inspire guests to return. Responsible tourism is not just a priority—it is the future of our industry.”

The timing aligns with renewed momentum in Sri Lanka’s tourism sector in 2026. While traditionally overshadowed by the island’s southern and western coasts, the East Coast is gaining attention from travellers seeking more unique and tranquil experiences. With a more organised and proactive association, Pasikudah is now better positioned to amplify its appeal.

Hosting the event, Sun Siyam Pasikudah—part of Sun Siyam’s Privé Collection, a Maldivian-owned hospitality group—continues to stand out as one of the region’s most intimate boutique resorts. Located along an unspoiled stretch of Sri Lanka’s north-eastern coastline, the 34-villa property reflects the serene charm that defines the destination.
