BYD has retained its position as the world’s largest seller of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), recording total global sales of 4,602,436 units in 2025. The milestone underscores BYD’s leadership in the global transition toward sustainable mobility.
In 2025, BYD also became the world’s largest seller of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), reflecting strong growth across its fully electric portfolio. This performance was driven by robust demand in both domestic and international markets, supported by continued investment in technology, manufacturing scale, and vertically integrated clean energy solutions.
A key contributor to this growth was BYD’s accelerated international expansion. For the first time, annual overseas sales surpassed one million units, reaching over 1.04 million vehicles across more than 110 countries—a 145% year-on-year increase. Europe, Latin America, and Southeast Asia emerged as key growth regions, while China remained BYD’s largest market, accounting for the majority of NEV sales.
This global momentum is mirrored in Sri Lanka, where BYD has emerged as a leader in the EV and PHEV segment following the lifting of vehicle import restrictions in February 2025. Through its authorised distributor, John Keells CG Auto, BYD has introduced nine models to the local market, including DOLPHIN, ATTO 3, SEAL, M6, ATTO 1, ATTO 2, SEALION 5, SEALION 6, and SHARK 6.
BYD has also established a growing NEV ecosystem in Sri Lanka, supported by seven showrooms in Colombo, Moratuwa, Kandy, Galle, Ampara, Kurunegala, and Ratnapura, along with over 21 nationwide charging points, facilitating wider adoption of electric mobility on the island.
