In light of the current disaster situation in the country, the Government of Sri Lanka has received numerous inquiries from foreign governments, international organisations, individuals, and Sri Lankans living abroad regarding the donation of essential goods to support affected communities.
Accordingly, the Government has introduced a streamlined procedure to expedite the clearance and distribution of all material aid sent to Sri Lanka, free of all customs duties, taxes, and charges.
Guidelines on making such donations can be accessed via the Sri Lanka Customs website (www.customs.gov.lk
), while detailed information on the types of essential goods and materials eligible for donation is available at www.donate.gov.lk
.
Foreign donors may send material assistance to Sri Lanka using any mode of transport. To qualify for duty-free clearance, all consignments must be addressed to:
The Secretary
Ministry of Defence
Disaster Management Centre (DMC)
Vidya Mawatha, Colombo 07
In instances where material donations are addressed to another individual or organisation in Sri Lanka and duty-free clearance is requested, the recipient must formally agree to handover the consignment to the Disaster Management Centre. If such an agreement is not provided, standard customs clearance procedures will apply.
This mechanism is intended to facilitate the timely delivery of critical supplies to disaster-affected communities and ensure efficient coordination of relief efforts nationwide.
