Sampath Bank PLC has become the first bank in Sri Lanka to introduce integrated PayPal withdrawal and account connectivity capabilities through its Sampath Vishwa platform, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital banking evolution and expanding access to secure global payment systems.

The initiative strengthens Sri Lanka’s growing participation in the global digital economy, as freelancers, entrepreneurs, exporters, and remote workers increasingly engage in cross-border trade and international platforms. Rising demand for reliable global payment channels has accelerated the need for seamless, trusted financial connectivity between Sri Lanka and international markets.

Through its collaboration with PayPal, Sampath Bank aims to facilitate smoother foreign currency inflows while enabling customers to transact more efficiently across global marketplaces. The integration reflects a broader shift toward digital-first financial services supporting Sri Lanka’s expanding online workforce.

Sampath Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Sanjaya Gunawardana stated, “Digital access should never limit Sri Lankan talent from participating in the global economy. Our collaboration with PayPal represents an important step in enabling individuals and businesses to engage confidently with international markets through secure and convenient banking. Sampath Bank remains committed to shaping the future for our customers through meaningful digital innovation that supports entrepreneurship and strengthens Sri Lanka’s digital economy.”

PayPal Vice President and General Manager Amir Valliani added, “PayPal’s partnership with Sampath Bank marks an important step in expanding secure and trusted access to global payments for customers in Sri Lanka. This collaboration helps freelancers, entrepreneurs, start-ups, and businesses connect more easily to international opportunities and access their earnings with greater convenience and confidence.”

The integration allows customers to securely link their PayPal accounts via the Sampath Vishwa Mobile App and withdraw funds directly into Sampath Bank accounts in LKR or USD. Users without an existing PayPal account can also initiate setup through the platform, simplifying onboarding for first-time users entering global digital marketplaces.

OrphanCare Trust and AAA Industries Forge Partnership to Support Orphaned Children in Sri Lanka

OrphanCare Trust has entered into a partnership with AAA Industries (Pvt) Ltd to strengthen long-term support initiatives for orphaned children across Sri Lanka.

Under the collaboration, AAA Industries will contribute a portion of proceeds based on each shoe sold from selected footwear brands, with funds directed toward OrphanCare Trust programmes aimed at improving the welfare and future prospects of children in institutional care.

The partnership aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 10, focusing on reducing inequalities and addressing what the Trust describes as the risk of “second abandonment,” where orphaned children often lose structured support after leaving care homes.

OrphanCare Trust works to ensure continuous support for orphaned children through structured financial assistance, including periodic deposits into individual orphan accounts. This model is designed to help young adults transition toward independence while promoting equal access to support, in line with Article 2 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which emphasises non-discrimination.

Beyond financial assistance, the Trust also engages in education support, vocational training, youth and women empowerment programmes, healthcare assistance, and job placement pathways for young adults transitioning out of care homes at the age of 18.

Commenting on the partnership, AAA Industries Director C.M. Noohu stated that the company’s commitment to OrphanCare reflects its core values and dedication to contributing meaningfully to the welfare of Sri Lanka’s orphan community, adding that the collaboration is expected to continue in the long term.

Welcoming the partnership, OrphanCare Trust Deputy Head Marshad Barry noted that the initiative will help expand the benefits provided to registered children under the programme and strengthen ongoing efforts to improve their quality of life and future opportunities.
