Introducing a new dimension to Sri Lanka’s hospitality landscape, Sirin Park Luxury Eco Lodge in Ginemellagaha, Baddegama, is offering scientifically backed animal therapy experiences aimed at enhancing guest wellness and relaxation.
Animal-assisted therapy has been widely recognised for its health benefits, including reducing cortisol levels, improving mood, and promoting relaxation. The presence of animals is known to have a calming effect on the nervous system, making it an increasingly popular wellness offering in global hospitality.
Founder Visita Sirin Leelaratna said the property has been designed to deliver a holistic healing experience. Guests are given the opportunity to interact gently with a range of animals, including rescued donkeys and ponies, as well as sheep, goats, and cows.
“We care for several abandoned animals, allowing guests to bond with them through feeding and interaction. Alongside these, chickens, ducks, and other species live in harmony, creating a peaceful and natural environment,” he said.
The eco-lodge has also introduced accommodation options for both local and international visitors, featuring two suites—Ramya and Suramya—capable of hosting up to six guests. The suites are equipped with modern amenities such as air conditioning, hot and cold water, high-speed Wi-Fi, smart TV, refrigerator, microwave, laundry services, and secure parking.
Guests can enjoy meals prepared using locally sourced ingredients, many of which are grown on-site. Additional experiences include BBQ nights, with plans underway to introduce activities such as canoeing in the nearby stream, indoor sports, and cycling.
The development of the property has involved an investment of approximately Rs. 250 million across multiple phases, with further plans to add a natural swimming pool and water-based activities. In line with its sustainability goals, the lodge has also incorporated solar energy solutions to reduce dependence on electricity.
Among its standout offerings is the ‘Coconut Tour’, a popular experience among foreign visitors, particularly those staying in nearby Hikkaduwa. Located just 12 km away, the tour provides an immersive three-hour insight into Sri Lanka’s coconut industry and rural lifestyle.
The lodge also features a uniquely modified 45-year-old Nissan vehicle, used to transport guests, adding a distinctive touch to the overall experience.
