Building on its landmark launch, City of Dreams Sri Lanka is continuing to redefine Sri Lanka’s tourism and hospitality sector as South Asia’s first fully integrated luxury resort. The development brings together Nüwa, its ultra-luxury flagship hotel, and Cinnamon Life, a dynamic lifestyle hotel, within a single world-class destination that blends hospitality, entertainment, retail, and business experiences on an unprecedented scale in Colombo.

Developed through a strategic partnership between Melco Resorts & Entertainment and John Keells Holdings PLC, the project represents a transformative USD 1.3 billion investment—the largest private sector investment in Sri Lanka. Spanning 4.5 million square feet, it signals strong long-term investor confidence in the country while positioning Colombo as an emerging regional hub for high-value tourism, business travel, and lifestyle experiences.

At its core, the development is anchored in the integrated resort concept, a globally recognised model that combines luxury accommodation, entertainment, retail, wellness, and large-scale events into a seamless destination experience. In Colombo, this concept is realised through a carefully curated environment designed not only to host visitors, but to deliver a fully immersive urban experience.

The luxury segment is led by Nüwa, the signature hotel within the City of Dreams portfolio. Featuring 113 rooms and suites, Nüwa offers an exclusive and highly personalised luxury experience defined by refined service, elegant design, curated detailing, and sweeping views of the city skyline—setting a new benchmark for premium hospitality in Sri Lanka.

Complementing this is Cinnamon Life, the lifestyle hotel within the same integrated resort. With 687 rooms and suites overlooking both the Indian Ocean and Colombo cityscape, it delivers a vibrant, contemporary hospitality experience. Designed for connectivity and social engagement, Cinnamon Life offers dynamic public spaces and a lively atmosphere, appealing to travellers seeking a modern, experience-driven stay while balancing the exclusivity of Nüwa with a broader urban lifestyle offering.
The Palms Beruwala to Temporarily Close Until August for Major Refurbishment
Beruwala Resorts PLC has informed the Colombo Stock Exchange that its flagship property, The Palms Beruwala, has been temporarily closed to facilitate refurbishment and operational upgrades.

The hotel was closed effective 1 May 2026 and is scheduled to remain out of operation until 30 August 2026, with reopening planned for 1 September 2026.

According to the company, the refurbishment programme is aimed at enhancing the overall guest experience and maintaining improved service standards across the property. The Board of Directors has stated that the decision was carefully considered and is not expected to have a material impact on the company’s long-term financial performance.

During the closure period, Beruwala Resorts PLC will implement cost management measures to ensure financial stability while work is carried out on the property. The upgrade is expected to position the hotel for improved operational efficiency and stronger guest offerings once it resumes operations.
