Consumer banking operations of HSBC Sri Lanka officially came to an end today (30), following the completion of the transfer of its retail business to Nations Trust Bank.
The transition follows approval granted by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in December 2025, with a binding sale and purchase agreement finalised after being signed in September 2025.
From May 1, approximately 200,000 HSBC customers—including those holding credit cards, personal loans, and premier banking services—will be migrated to Nations Trust Bank as part of the process.
HSBC announced that its branches, express banking centres, and ATMs closed at 3 p.m. today, while access to accounts, debit and credit cards, and digital banking services remained available until 7 p.m. Thereafter, all HSBC cards and online platforms ceased operations.
Customers have been advised to expect temporary service disruptions during the transition period, as systems will remain offline until fully restored under Nations Trust Bank.
HSBC also confirmed that its official Sri Lanka Facebook page will be deactivated today, expressing appreciation to customers for their trust and engagement over the years as it concludes its retail banking presence in the country.
